A leader is someone who’s in command of himself first, and others subsequently.

A leader provides guidance, wisdom, perspective, strength, motivation, hope, discipline, and love to those who follow him.

A leader isn’t afraid of challenge; he embraces it willingly and balances risk intelligently.

A leader places self-interest above service, insofar as he understands he must continuously work on himself, clearing his own mind, resolving his own problems, in order to enter the proper emotional frame to be of service to others.

A leader places service above self-interest, insofar as he understands that his word is his bond, that discipline is required of him to help others at inconvenient times, and that giving himself away in the end yields ROI beyond dollars – in fulfillment.
